We have for far too long viewed engineering as an overhead and not as a mission enabler. Overheads end up being cut and not invested in. In correcting this we face significant competition with other organisations around the country seeking engineering talent. We are all fighting to attract and retain the same technical talent pool.
Vice Admiral Ray Griggs, 15 December 2011
The Government is facing major public policy challenges – climate change, economic growth, national and regional security, sustainable development, health and the delivery of national infrastructure. APESMA members are critical to developing and delivering the solutions to these problems. It is time for Government to invest in the recognition and retention of specialist skills and knowledge and to ensure that there are career paths for specialists in all agencies that require technical expertise.
And it is time for engineers, scientists and technology professionals to step up across the Australian Government and have our say on these issues. This is the purpose of the STEP Campaign.
